..but im back, well for a short while! So I have bee going through a shift and been reminencing of the yester-years! I keep on saying it but it so true I MISS THE MUTHAFUCKIN 90's! musically you don't know how close music/music video and I were! These days if I turn on the radio my usual reacton is "blah" Give or take a few quality online radio station that play decent music, or music to my caliber. I don't even view music videos like I use to! I remember back in days when I would sit and wait for a particualr video to come on MTV/The Box/BET International(shout out to those who had cable in the mid-80's-90's).My mother already warned me if I called and requested a video i'll be in for a beating LOL. I had to wait and flick between channels, only leave the room for a toilet break or snak break when the commericals came on! Thats how passionate I was about music videos!

So I came across a tumblr page dedicated to the 90's and memories started flooding back! Right know I want to go back a decade and some change, give props to one of those r&b/hip hop all girl groups. The one group who didnt actually have puff daddy in every video screamin "bad boy" or "take dat take dat!" Im talkin about Total. Now their vocal arrangements aint to par to say envogue but my goodness they had some TUNEEESSSSS!! Now first up this video right here I loved because you never really saw a video like this, a camera panning from below through glass! and Missy was in it too! The beat was sick her adlibs were also the ish and home girl with the paws on her thighs made me want a puppy!

Black History Month

Over here in the UK its Black History month, A Month where black people celebrate their history. I view it just like Valentines Day, it should be celebrated and acknowledged everyday. Every day there is something to be thankful for, for if it wasn’t for our ancestors we would not be here today or have things we now use in everyday life. As a child I was often told of the many great black people in our history such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Martin Luther King , Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela etc I was also informed of the many things black people invented and contributed in this world. Did you know there was a black queen on England??, monarchy kept that one quiet! I was about 12 when I found that out too! Queen Charlotte was her name.

I am so grateful that I also attended Saturday Schools(Shout out to Queen Mother Moore and Afiwi Saturday schools) who made it their duty to inform and uplift us Children of colour and to demolish what schools were educating us, that we were “just slaves” and having Alex Haley Novel (and miniseries) Roots to furthermore prove that.

With that said though Happy Black History month, continue to learn more about your history and ancestors, learn and grow.

On a lighter note, I just wanna state this..

GOOD! Its about time too! On the odd occasion that I come across Jeremy Kyles show he seems a bit too cocky for me, fair enough the people on stage may have done something bad but his attitude shouldn't stink that much! At least Jerry Springer and Maury had a little heart at times and composed themselves well.
Its true though Jeremy did throw the envelope at the man, he deserved that lick to his head! LOL @ dude saying "your mum! "

Meet bino & Fino. A pair of Nigerian twins who live in Nigeria with their grandparents Mama and Papa. Today the first episode was launched and I personally love it! I can see big things happening with this as there isn't a lot of Black animation out right now especially from a African perspective. Last week friday I went to my friend's event, and while catching some air from all of that hard core dancing and talking to my loved ones it dawned upon me how far my group of friends have come.

Here I was at Hipsters Don't Dance (HDD) to the left of me was the sweat breakers Chonsak and Ibrahim who started a glorious nite called Ain't It Black(AIB), their motto was "don't pose just dance'This is where it all started. To the right of me was Rikki, one of the founders of Yo Mama and I can remember him handing out flyers outside Favela Chic at the AIB event with instructions on how to do the wu tang dance, for his night. Also there was Mani who now has his night called The Bang Bang. I was in awe, we are practically family with serious love for music , dancing and good vibes, the growth and the memories i will for ever cherish.

There was one point in my life where my friends would be embrassed of how I danced especially when uber AMPED, I didnt give a flying fart if ya didn't like my behaviour. In my mind, im at a club, its a good tune you are supposed to DANCE! From that point on I wanted to meet like minded people and in 2007 those like minded people were found! It was and still is a blessing!

This month Yo Mama will be 2 yers old! Hipsters Don't Dance will be celebrating their 1st birthday next month and if Ain't it Black was still rockin it will be Three years old in december!

so this blog post is dedicated to the ones who make me sweat out each once of energy from me on the dancefloor, rape a wall, stool or chair, made me bang on a wall while spittin some haard core lyrics and screaming "PULLLL UPPPP",break out into the spirit of Dutty whine like this.......

This man right here is a man after my own heart, not only does he kills it with the serious 'boom-bat!'drumming skills, he also kills it when djing. The first time I encountered him djing was a couple of years ago after he finished performing with the roots and I was blown away.

I personally love digging through crate's of records and finding little gems. You hear a song, recognise the composition, the arrangement of strings,horn,drum patterns,you don't know the original but you recognise the loop made for a hip hop beat! my goodness those are little gems! To think how these original tracks were made, with no computers,full orchestra's,pure harmonies is out of this world for me, leaves me in awe, listen to some James Brown or Barry White! their arrangements will blow you away,sends you to nostalgia. ?uest finds those little gems and plays the remixes made by hip hop artist/producers.These remixes take on another meaning once looped,re-arranged, its like a never ending evolution of a track, imagine what will be produced in the next twenty years with people using J Dilla''s productions and evolving it into something even better! MADNESS!

Anywho I was in my element, East Village was packed to the brim,we were all head nodding,having eargasims,fed our souls of what we needed! sweated for three hours and rapping our hearts out, good vibes and all. I love watching this man work,his facial expressions when he rips some shit up simultaneously blends one track to another with the same drum pattern, pure BLISS! I would just love to sit in his record collection and get lost within it,that would be super fun!

If ?uestlove is ever around, spinning the wheels of steel or sarato in a city near you, I advise you GO and enjoy the experience!

Two weeks ago I bumped my head at work on a 100% steel safe,ended up with a concussion,had a nose bleed and a constant spreading headache. It was so bad I couldn't laugh too hard apparently while talking to my homeboy he said my laugh now sounded like this old dude....

however I plead the 5th lol

Anywho I was a soldier still went to work and worked through the pain, no work equals to no pay ,it sucks being a temp sometimes.That coming weekend I had tons of stuff to get done,it was carnival weekend the one weekend I look forward to for the whole year! its a free Caribbean affair, a street party for a whole two days!
As usual my excitement reached peak levels , till my head hurt so bad it did not leave my pillow,you ever been in so much pain that when you slept you felt no pain at all? well that was me for the whole weekend, but the party-goer in me still wanted to go carnival just to PALANCE ,get on bad pun di big truck! I didn't leave the house all weekend but was still determined even with my concussion to go to carnival, another 365 days is a long wait for me. So I found my ear plugs,took some pain medication,bottle of water and starburst and made my way. After two hours into carnival by myself , the pain got the better of me and decided to call it a night.

All I wanted to do the next day at work was this...

Damn Concussion! somebody pass me an office chair!

Another album I have on constant rotation is Big Boi! The beats, the lyrics knocks so hard! (Btw we need more skits in albums!) super Hiliarous, the David Blaine skit got me ,I laughed so hard,although the situation is so wrong, get the album and listen to it.

I'm having a little struggle, with ending my relationship with sugar and dairy.We grew up and held so many fond memories together. But it's now or never,its make or break time. I have given up milk and now substitute that with,hazelnut milk,oat milk,organic soya milk, rarely does cheese or ice cream come into my food intake, but the one thing I'm struggling with is sugar.

Let me tell you something, sugar is one molecule away from crack! It is addictive! not mention its nearly in every snack known to man! I gotta nip it in the bud because these days manufactures put all sorts of junk in those sugary delicious snacks .. ahem"corn syrup" and I personally want to know what is in my food for I am what I eat!
I was on a hunt for vegan recipes, food I can make and eat in moderation and came across this blog the gluttonous vegan, this woman has the most delicious (but not healthiest) recipes but hey I had to give this a shot and decided to make this on my lazy Sunday afternoon..

Last night I partied at The Bang Bang Ladies night ball from 11pm to 5am, talk about being a soldier, cameras were flashing, I might of looked possessed and mash up! I was so happy, but to tell you the truth, I can't keep up like I use to, getting out of breath after doing the running man one time and voguing! lol I'm getting old mate, sure can feel it in mi bones.

How much I LOVEE THIS SONG AND VIDEO! Now bare in mind I was about 7 or 8 years old when I first saw this video and didn't know what a sexy *prince scream* was, but the cello, trumpet, sax,piano and guitar!! blew me away and the harmonies! The fact that prince was sooo damn slick with it!!

So jazzy ,so darn good!! As I got older I realised what Prince was talking about but that rhythm had me at an early age!

It has been an amazing two refreshing weeks of FREEDOM!! from work that is! As I mentioned a few post ago,I went went on my American Invasion! First stop was in San Francisco for 3 nights to celebrate my good friends' wedding, it was so beautiful, the ceremony was emotional, eyes welled up with joy and we partied the night away.

I stayed in a wonderful hostel, the best hostel I have ever been to,highly recommend International Hostel Association in San Fran if you ever want to go.

I then spent some time with my homie for life he was the best host and we basically chilled. I needed to, a break was need and a break in the sun full of laughs and good times is what the healing doctor recommended! I went to the hood, the valley met up with my beautiful sister and her children and my twinny from another city. I didn't really want to leave LA because it was such a great time balling on a budget... *Dollar dollar Bills Y'all!!
This is us clubbing it up in Hollywood..I love my peoples!

Seriously LA is a beautiful place to live only problem I had was the traffic jams!

You could fall asleep and wake up and the traffic would of moved 2.5 cm! ok maybe I'm exaggerating but I'm not for traffic, I'm a walking public transport kind of gyal ;-)

The next city was to DC aka Dafna Central that's what the city should be named after she is queen on that city and I stayed in with my friend Dafna, good times but that HUMID HEAT WAS FINNAH KILL A SISTAH, DC is built on a swamp,that explains the mosquito's and unbearable heat!

Fell in love with the random stickers on their pavements and anonymous art work on the streets.

I headed off to NY on a bus enjoyed the ride and met up with my Capricorn sister Anniebelle!

We went around the city, well mainly Brooklynnnn and Union Square! Loved the Brooklyn Arts Museum, I could possibly live in here and constantly learn something new or just be mesmerised by all the art in this building!

Brooklyn had a couple of handsome men , even bumped into a tall chocolate bald headed cutie * Insert biggie voice here* UGHH! met with more friends i.e my sweetie pie Marcus I've known for around 10 years spent about 10 minutes with him but it was wonderful and my Dearest NY Queen Sade *see us below* ...Good Times!

Overall I had a great time,reflected on a few things,Planned a bit of my future and right now I'm trying to make it happen! Roll on the prosperous future!

**Off topic*** But can we take a moment to appreciate this sink! isn't this just most sexiest sink you have ever seen??!! Look how that water seductively flows out of that tap!

I miss the 90's

Its true.I cannot get enough of that era for the simple fact that I grew up in it. These days I find myself during my lunch break going through youtube videos,looking at old skool rnb/new jack swing/ hip hop/cheesey pop/dance etc,having flashback moments. Today I got to thinking.. WHAT THE FUDGE HAPPENED TO R&B IN THE LAST DECADE??! I'm not even going to label whatever has been thrown out into the industry in the past 2-3 years as R&B its just something else, not R&B.
** side note; I will talk about some artist who have fallen off in another post**
I stumbled upon AZ YET listening to a song they covered titled "Hard to say I'm sorry". My goodness I forgot how GREAT they were, the harmonies,runs,rifts and sexual dark chocolate singer with the deep voice! I could of screamed at my work desk, absolutely beautiful! compare this to Trey songs for example its all about sex sex sex, wheres the love love love( & vocal range without trying to sound like R.Kelly's little brother)??

This group is the little sister to En Vogue!

I also miss videos like this! Can't turn back the hands of time but for a little moment at least I have youtube to take me back to the 90's!

This past weekend was pretty cool, the sun came out to play and when the sun is out you shed your many layers of winter clothing! it was only 18 c, we haven't seen the sun in a while and people are bound to get a likkle excited.Lets keep it real though, it is not pum pum shorts wearing season yet people! nahh not even my big toes was catching sun rays, the flip flops will come out when the temperature is 21 c and upwards!

Anyways I digress, I had a wonderful day, rolled up my jeans showed a some leg and put on my straw hat felt the cool breeze and enjoyed the atmosphere. I caught up with my cousin at Carnby street where there was performances by talented singers and dancers, hip hop b-girl dancers to be exact from B.Supreme!

I volunteered at B. supreme a few years back and to see these girls all grown up doing their stuff made me so happy and also made me realise how much I miss doing street dance. I'll get back to it eventually, life is too short. My cousin introduced me to her friends and they were the loveliest bunch of people! lively, full of jokes and fun and to top it all off they were all from a creative background! I felt inspired. You meet people for a reason but just hearing about what they do lifted up my spirits and reminded me to get on my grind. I will not live my life working in an office. NO MA'AM!

Peace and Blessings! I've been MIA for a brief period, living life, trying work a few things out. I 've gotta feeling something big is going to happen, I feel it in my bones!

Good fun things to do and see! If anybody has any suggestions please holla at me, it would be appreciated. I think I might go on a mini man hunt,ya know carry a poison pipe and a bow and arrow and take a man over my shoulder, yup I'm on my cave woman type ish ;) (I'm kidding,really)

As you know I'm a vegetarian, and this month marks my first year in vegetarianism! yay for me! I've been attending alot of healthy eating workshops and was able to go to a vegan cooking workshop and it is wonderful. There is so much things you can do with food!
I would like to share some of the things I have learnt because I think its beneficial for all to know, spread the love!

I learnt that each vegetable and fruit are used for specific organs, our bodies are complex and made up of different colours, the fruit and veg reflect that.
Now if you look at a fruit it should resemble and organ for an example if you look at a cashew nut it looks like a kidney. If you cut a red papper,apple,or tomato it resembles the heart ,cut a carrot or a kiwi fruit and it resembles the eyes. How AMAZING is that! You live and learn something new everyday.

Below is a recipe of a beautiful juice which benefits the whole body and nice perk up to your morning.You will need a good juicer to do this.

Green Juice/Liquid Sunshine

For the green juice aka liquid sunshine, you can basically Juice anything green. You can do variations with spinach, broccoli, parsley etc. as for portions go for what you feel. I dash whatever amounts into the juicer, taste and decide if I want more fruit in the juice. No need to peel the fruit/veg, wash and dash it all in the juicer

Cucumber
Celery
Kiwi
Apples
For an extra kick you could add a bit of ginger
I chose to use organic and fresh vegetables if possible. It is best to drink this first thing in the morning or you could have some warm water with lemon first to cleanse out your system from toxins and then drink the juice.

Breakfast shake
Blend a handful of cashew nuts
Organic Oat milk (you can use soya milk, quinoa milk, hazelnut milk but not cows milk or any animal milk. we are keeping it Au natural innit!)
Ripe Plantain half or whole or if you like a banana
A dash of oats
A couple of dates (with seeds taken out)
Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
Vanilla extract (not essence)
The dates and plantain gives the milk shake the sweetness. In this shake is protein and if you are very active you can drink this throughout the day If you want it extra sweet you can use agave syrup.

And there you have it! An all natural raw breakfast.

Wise words from my Grandmother

I think my Grandmother should of been a comedian, because she is hilarious! She just comes out with stuff that will make you crack up and there isn't a time when I haven't been at my grandparents house and not had a serious belly laughter. I think both my Grandparents get funnier with age!

Last weekend I went over to my grandparents to chill and umm await for my granddaddy to make me the best fish cakes EVER!
(please see below)

Anywho I got to thinking about all the things my Grandmother has taught me, and all the funniest things she has ever done or said to me for an example when I was around the age of of nine or ten, a growing child with big feet! my dad is a size 15 so go figure. At one point I was wearing size 9 shoes at 9 years old 10 at 10 (10 uk size 13 US) my feet even went up to a 12 but then shrunk back to a 10..don't ask me how that happened.*Kanye shrug*
So one day I was having difficultly getting school shoes and told my grandma about it and she comes out with: (while laughing) "it looks like we have to find two baby coffin fi fit yuh feet..." Seriously who comes up with stuff like that?!! At the time it wasn't too funny but now that I look back and think about it, it is kinda funny

Back in the days my granny would instruct me to walk in front of her whenever we went shopping. She would tell me to walk like a penguin because I use to, no actually I still do walk pigeon toed and the knock knees didn't help either, but now when I do walk like a penguin my feet actually are straight, Grandma knows best!!
I thought I would share some of the thoughtful things she has told me:

1.Manners and Respect takes you a long way.

2. You must always say your prayers and give thanks

3. Always use the toilet before you leave the house. You are not always guaranteed that there will be a clean toilet when u leave the house.

4.You must laugh, talk and sit like a lady..

5.When you are out You must talk in properly.In proper grammar.

6. Don't leave the house too late at night, make sure u reach home before sunset.

7.As long as you have a good man, he could be blue, green, white or black, as long as he treats you well

8. One of the best quotes: "La La you must be careful with some of these men, they might look pretty but they could have AIDS! You must protect yourself!" Seriously..You gotta love granny!

oh and I'll leave with one of the conversations we had about Lady Gaga..

Granny: Who is this Ga Ga girl?
Me: oh she an artist
Granny: but how come this girl(Leona Lewis) can't win any awards on the Brits?, she sing so nice and is a pretty girl but this Ga Ga girl can win??! Her frock was hideous,I don't know what she dressed like
Me: (laughing) well that's her style
Granny: hmph..it look like she gone Ga Ga fi true!

If you haven't watched any of the BBC's Hustle series, you need to. I love this programme the writing is so on point, it inspires me to write! I believe the writers for this show are ex-con artist because it is just absolutely brilliant and it doesn't help that I have a a slight crush on this actor

Mr Adrian Lest, I love the character he plays..so suave, a charmer and handsome.
Actually I love all of the charecters and the actors that play them.

Ugh I need to get all of the series on DVD and somehow get rid of the blasted writers block I am currently suffering from, because this programme is just GENIUS! I just want to be in a fly on the wall when all the writers brainstorm a well written script!

End of an Era

I have to get this off my chest. Over time you grow with your family and you learn most from your Elders with their wise words. Throughout this last decade I have lost Family members.
I'm finding it hard to accept that my elders are passing away one by one, it feels as if an End of an Era is near.My aunt passed away the day before my birthday and it struck me that One day I'll have to view my Mother,Grandmother, Grandfather, Father in a Casket and deal with the whole preparation of a funeral.I don't know how I will cope.

When my uncle passed in 2007 I saw him about 2 hours after he passed and I helped him out while he was sick but it hit me that his only his body was there not his spirit, not his jokes. I will no longer see him tell a dry joke, or make videos with his camera. I miss walking into their homes smelling cooked food, the texture of their wall the loud 1960's wall paper print and the loud mix matched carpet.

I get a lump in my throat and an ache in my heart.I try my best to cherish each moment I have with my elders and stop to tell them I love them and how much of an influence they have on me and continue to keep some of the family traditions alive.I know that the body is only a shell for the spirit, but once the last breath is gone the spirit has moved on, its done its time and purpose and many lessons were learnt.Its not death, Its just a transition in the spiritual form. I got to appreciate this,the spirit is always there and memories will forever live on.

Sending love to my ancestors and elders who have passed.

I went and saw this movie with my homie at the Imax Cinema in 3D! it was on @ exactly 00:20! yes and it felt as if this was a bumpin Friday/Saturday night not an early Tuesday morning!

My eyes were burning with awe and pleasure!! I totally loved the realness of the animation/visual effects and I totally understood the story line! I couldn't see why people didn't get it!! There were many references made which made me think back to slavery/colonialism but the Na'Vi people in my eyes represented AFRICA! It screamed it by the braids,facial features and physique, even though they all looked alike certain features instantly made out as African.(blue is the new black didn't you know? lol) But in a nut shell it represents Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan! Any country who had been robbed for its natural beauty/resources :oil,Gold,Diamonds,Silver etc and will do anything to get what they want and damage its indigenous people.

What I connected to the most was deities, the spiritual aspect, the connection with mother nature which no man can break regardless of their man made power! I totally loved the 3D experience,was a bit upset I couldn't take the 3D glasses home:( but the in depth details within the Na'vi characters and visuals blew my mind, I believe I am going to watch that movie over and over again.Maybe I'll find an even more in depth message just like the Matrix(that's a big maybe). With the Matrix I can watch all of the sequels and receive a different message and a better overstanding...

But with Avatar I think I'm just fascinated with the visuals and details.All the research they must of done to craft these characters; from the tribal marks, head dress etc.

Forever Young!

Yes I have reached the ripe age of a quarter of a century! But I still feel like im 18 years old therefore I am 25 years YOUNG! Time has flown so quickly and I'm still in amazement that I have reached here already!! WHERE DID THE TIME GO??!! just the other day I was in high school!!

Anywho I was lastminute.com with my arrangements for my b-day and ended up going to a Thai restaurant and then going for a likkle boogie at Market Place. Overall it was aiight, I'm blessed to see another year and have my loved ones around me, for that I am forever grateful! My little sister called me, My Dad called me from JA and My homie called from Cali, I felt a lot of love oh and my Facebook was rammed with birthday wishes, you just gotta smile at all that love! My sistrens got me the best gift in the world... A Diana F instant back...basically an attachment to my camera where I can take Polaroid photos. ANALOGUE LOVE BABY!! IT IS A BEAUT! My Cousin got me a pair of PINK headphones,my extended fam HHD made me the best Birthday CD EVER! my mother got me a precious crystal ring with so many harmonious benefits! I LOVE IT ALL! but what topped off the nite was bumping into Mr Idris Alba..SEXY CHOCOLATE.. and because it was my birthday and he was a bit drunk he agreed to take a pic with me aww...See below( you may have squint your eyes a little bit)

Reflecting on the year gone by....

2009 what a year it has been for me. Over the last 3 years on new years eve I write down what I want to accomplish, well more like I claim it, because it will happen.I then re-read my list to see if what I wanted to accomplish was done and 8 times out of 10 it does! it is a great reflecting moment for me, to see my growth, downfalls and lessons learned. This year has been a little emotional eye opener for me ,I'm still learning me and I understand and see things differently now.

I started the year with wanting better health and spiritual growth.
I began going to yoga classes, reading more books, attending health seminars,and learning more about the occult(astrology,numerology etc).

I decided to stop eating meat and I am now a vegetarian. Began to investigate what was going into my body. Food affects your physical and spiritual vibrations/frequency and I love my greens, trying to let go of that sugar crack! but it will take me a while to reach vegan! hard letting go of the dairy lol

I've loxed my hair. I been wanting to do it for a while now and my family were deterring me from doing because of job opportunities! Quite frankly like india aire stated I am not (just) my hair! It's my life and who don't like it can suck on a nut! I cannot be bothered anymore! BRUSH AND GO IS THE MOTO! Au natural! simple plus when I did have extension people already thought i was loxed up

I met some beautiful wonderful blessed people! I am so happy that they are in my life!

I lost a good friend in the physical,but her energy lives on her spirit is still alive, I still hear her voice her giggles and one liners! oi oi who are yaaa!! dats my girl Taken from this earthly plane as you done your purpose and on to the next life you shall go. R.I.P PRINCESS RISIKAT TANWA BALOGUN 14.02.86 - 12.10.09 The one person who I knew who lived life to the fullest always positive always full of love. Love always Princess, its a pity that little dash between birth and death doesn't show the entirety of a persons life, personally there should be a hologram that shows a whole life story, c'mon now we are entering 2010! We should be driving space cars like the Jetsons by now! Anywho.. I'm side tracking..

Ahem..

This year I think I overloaded on the concerts as well as my CD consumption! I went and saw Maxwell Twice (my Muse/Boo!), Janelle Monae, Daniel Merriweather,Mos Def..ROLL ON THE MUSIC!

Fell in love with analogue cameras again.I heart the lomography store! I would live there if I could!

Attended a script writing class,half drafted two scripts. I am still trying to finish it off and I will.Promise :)

Spent incredible time with my loved ones.

Toned down raving to at least twice a month.. I must be getting old1

talk about old..IM GOING TO BE 25 YEARS YOUNG IN 15 DAYS! THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS! I accept all gifts, I do not discriminate ;-) xxx

Still paying back my overdraft but at least I am employed!

Hmm..Space Fruit or Many Moons?

Last night I was having a dilemma on where to go. You see I was super hyped when word got around that SA-RA would be performing @ Deviation and I was ready to go and have a Taz Arnold space fruit moment but then news got around that Janelle Monae was going to be performing at Cargo on the same nite! EEK!! I have been waiting and wanting this woman to come and perform over here for two years!I remember Janelle Monae looking like a cute lil doll in her cute afro minus a metropolis/cyborg uniform when I first heard her song "letting go" I was an instant fan.

For the whole day I was having a debate between me myself and I. As I made my way to go and see SA-RA I decided to take a little de-tour and walk past Cargo to see whats up and see if a sistah could sneak in for free(gotta try a ting sometimes!) as soon as my foot hit Cargo who do I see coming out of a taxi... a beautiful petite woman with a exquisite uniform and a major quiff hair style...It was Janelle Monae rolling with her crew(I'm thinking she was with deep cotton or jaspects..one of the two). YEA I WAS PRETTY MUCH STAR STRUCK. I have a problem with talking to artist or famous people, I just choke up but can easily talk to offenders and the general public! BLAH!

Anywho after walking past and actually seeing Janelle Monae I knew I had to go in and see her perform! I'm sure I'll get to see SA-RA once hit Cali or some place else.

She was amazing this chica is extra crazy,free spitited, animated o0o0 and so unique. She has the most off the wall but cute unique dance I ever seen! It was like watching a cute bunny rabbit bounce around really hard catching the holy spirit with a dash of moonwalking and James Browns foot work! freakin loved it! Loved her possessed wild energy plus her drummer was HELLA SEXY! oh and her guitarist was doing the bidnezz with the killa hair to match.

My girl has vocalz and can belt out some tunes,she sang songs from her Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase album and her new song "Come Alive" from her new album coming out in 2010 titled Metropolis Suites II & III .

Miss Monae she was singing and painting on stage, dancing so hard that her quiff was set free! dancing on the floor with baby powder, jumping into the crowd and throwing her painting to the crowd. Just out of this world! So animated! Check out the pics!
Oh yes can we get a James Brown cape moment please!Ain't nothing like being in the spirit of music while rolling on a baby powered floor! CHURCH!

So I went to see Maxwell at the Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday night. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! my goodness the man even sweats sexy! yes i am in love the man,he gave me eargasims!

Last nite I was watching two documentries about ethnic minorites having the desire to be white/westernised(via bleching creams nip & tucking body parts) to be accepted within society and it got me thinking. People we need to LOVE ourselves and learn to ACCEPT who we are, appreciate it, love it and embrace your knowledge of self because it is what makes you..YOU. We are all beautiful with all of our flaws.
It breaks my heart to watch documentries like this where people stil have this imperial/colonised ideology that being white or fairer is better or would improve your life and be accepted within this community called globalisation.

Now Maxwells second single "Bad Habits" caught me off guard when I first heard it but I was not ready for the video!

My Goodness I wish I was Kerry Washington right about now! this video is so SEXY SENSUAL and DELCIOUS!! Cheating on your partner is so soooo wrong but he makes it look so damn good!
I swear if maxwell were to look me in the eyes sangin those lyrics I would instanly become preganant! I was strolling through HMV and so happened to see Master Shortie's album on display, looking dapper and stylish as usual showing his pearly whites and since I was defenitly feeling his "dance like a white boy" and "Dead End" track I thought I would purchchase the album for 999.00 pennies.

I have seen him perform at yoyo's and as a supporting act for the Roots last year. He's not a bad performer he is a ball of energy with a rope chain around his neck but I was in shock to see Master Shortie in the crowd watching the Roots perform while sucking his thumb, yes you read it right THUMB! public display of thumb sucking to anybody over the age of 5 in my books is not a good look but im not gonna lie he is cute with it so he can run with it, each to their own, but im here to talk about his album titled A.D.H.D

I have to give the brotha his props where it is due! I am in love with the album I like his flow, his metaphors and his dash of singing(I would love to hear more of him singing) ITS ALRIGHT STILL!! Those beats,guitar riffs and electro buzz! produced by labi thoise beats are a bag full of hotness! seriously I could listen to the beats alone.
In my opinon the album kind of reminds me of Theophilus London's charming mixtape and a dash of kanye heartbreak 808 style but on a uk tip and representing his own personality. I like to decontruct lyrics, read between the lines and all that good stuff. I respect this young man a bit more for stepping out of the box and learning to love his craft being himself (prince charming nothing to be scared of) I see and appreciate the poet in him and the experiences he went thorugh, I see that in his lyrics alone i.e(why interlude,have it your way, right time)As soon as i heard under the moon, it was a wrap! I heard the harmonies, the beat and the lyrics! im a sucker for quriky one liners and comedic lyrics.

My Super Sweet 25th???

Since my unemployment I have been watching some tv (which I hardly do) and one show in particular(although there are more) really gets on my left tit ,right nipple! MY SUPER SWEET 16 on MTV!! all these spoiled brats havin a big ass party, gotta have diamonds, gotta have a car, 6 strong buff men carrying them on to a stage and blah blah blah!! YES I AM HATING..I'LL STEP ON YOUR COUCH RICK JAMES STYLE! I never had a sweet 16 b-day party or a rich Daddy to pay for it all! plus they are only bloody 16 what the hell are they gonna do for their 18th or 21st???!
So it got me thinking..im 24 years young and my 25th birthday is in about 8 months time. I've never had a big birthday party and I should be planning my big 25th!! but I want MTV to come up with a "My Sweet 25th" or "My sweet quarter of a century" something along those lines and pay for party or at least go halves ...I mean I wont ask for much!

six steps and three hours later.......

So have been slacking, I apologise but last nite pissed me off to the nth degree that I had to write about it. So I went over to Cargo to go to to Work it VS Living proof event. I have been to quite a few Living proof events at market place and overall they smashed it every time good vibes what have you Work it is aiight more of a hype thing but they played some good throw backs although i have only been to one of their events. So i expecting this nite to be a BLASTTTT! if only myself and my crew got in!
Heres the Story!

Event stated on Facebook starts at 9pm, I get there are 9:15 and there is a chokka bloc queue, so im meet my homie IB and he is near the front and the queuing process we moved about 6 steps forward within three hours. let me repeat that last part THREE HOURS! people are pushing into the line, some were even starting a line across the road and we were like wtf?? what is going on why is this taking so long?? the security were like oh its packed!..Excuse me? PACKED? how is it packed if it is suppose to start at 9pm, then they said, we had to be in line in order for us to get in then they some incident happened inside and now the event was closed! CLOSED! I was pissed i needed a revolution and a riot! a special shout out to the guys who had gorilla tacticks climbing over that high wall like professionals to get in..kudos to you my brothas!!

my feet were hurting not from dancing hard but from standing waiting to get in and quite frankly im not doing that ever again ..3hours you may say is alot, i guess I was holding on to hope of getting in an getting my dance on but in the words of my dearest friend Ibrahim:" im getting too old for this shit!! Cargo/livinproof/work it/management didn't handle this nite professionally at all! you will find me skanking at Ain't it Black, Yo mama and my living room with a bottle of ribena!!

However the night was not totally spoilt while we were figuring where else to go for free we followed music coming from around the corner got our lil skank on, chilled and made the best of the nite!

Michael Jackson has to go back to work!

Approximately 12 years ago I believe this same man said he will no longer do worldwide tours( please correct me if im wrong), fast forward 12 years later, three kid,s no more netherland ,a few court case , a dose of recession and a bad skin disease thrown in for good measure. Michael returns! In the wise words of Mr Jackson "this is it!"ummhmm sureeeee buddy! James Brown worked on stage till his death! bills gotta be paid!

But im a bit wary about michael jackson returning on stage, its not the same Michael I remember watching on MTV as a child and if his moves are anything like his little performance at the MTV music video Awards in year 2001.....

A refund should be granted! pronto! By the end of that little routine Michael was tired and needed a seat and a drink! ok maybe im being a little harsh , I just need proof that he still got "it" that magic stage presence before I cough up my extra chump change!

All im saying is I hope he is taking is daily intake of cod liver oil to keep those joints supple and he at least performs 3 songs off each album from childhood!

Valentines day aka Self Appreciation Day (one must love themselves first before loving others!) is approaching and all this lovey dovey shit is happening, roses chocolates hugs kisses and facebook pushing single dating Ad’s in my face!

Personally I believe everyday should be v-day, it is a wonderful feeling to know/appreciate/feel/shown/told that you are loved in more ways than one!

On that note to all those who I hold dear to my heart ,if you haven’t heard it in the last 24hours week, month or year(well you should of I spread love like free coupons) you are LOVED and I love YOU! This v-day looks like its going to be a dry season, which is nothing new really, so my self and my "boyfriend", the beat to my heart are going to relight our fire and party hard! His name is MUSIC.

In the movie Brown Suga home girl asks when did you fall in love with hip-hop? Pshhhhh I fell in love with music before my birth, for my mother’s heart had a beat and I was in tune with it! To answer the question I fell in love with MUSIC from day dot!!

I appreciate and embrace his many styles and fusions, but to date, my boyfriend has been going a little wayward with his “urban style” im pointing the finger at R&B and and to a certain extent Hip Hop. R&B in 2009 is nothing compared to R&B from 1990-1996! And even before the 90’s there was more quality! half of us was being made to that kind of music! But R&B has not been hitting that spot!

You know "That spot", as soon as you hear that song, you make up your best ugly face, throw your hands in the air, feet making foot work you never though you could do,possess your whole body makes you wanna scream and your heart flutter at the same time!

So I end up going back to a time where I was a young love,crushing hard on music and nearly every song he belted out made my heart leap with joy! Yes I was digging through old cassette tapes, CD’s and my old tape recordings of music video’s in the 90’s!!Todays tunes are not cutting it! Or maybe im not digging hard enough?

Silent Disco Baby!!

so on 6th of Feb i ventured out to Liverpool Street Station for the silent disco ting! (Silent disco-people meeting at one place,listening/dancing to their music on their phones/ipod/cd players)

Now for those of you who do not know..Hi my Name is La'Donna and I am a DANCEAHOLIC! I HAVE NO SHAME! I love every aspect of dance,the freedom of expression through your body and so when I saw this event on Facebook I was excited and down for the cause!!

I reached the station a good hour before the disco so I had time to roam! The experience was amazing! ever since the T-mobile commercial I wanted to try it..you haven't seen it? please see below....

Tell me that is just not the best commerical out there right now!! I've always wanted to burst out into song and dance in public spaces..well there has been a few ocassions while at a bus stop a song is too good to keep to myself I have sing quite low and bust out a two foot shuffle combo, but on Feb 6th at Liverpool Street Station this was my chance to do just that but with 13000 random strangers,listening to their own random music, rocking headphones and dancing in a public space!! Shout out to my buddies Sade Nick and Inie! we danced our little hearts out! had me changing 4 cd's in my cd player!
I have no eveidence of me documenting this moment, I had quite a few techincal difficulties
1. My camera offically died on me RIP BABY! 2005-2009 :(
2.My Fish eye Camera ran out of film( dammit I hate when that happens)
3. My Ipod is ofiically dead, oh and if you so happen to work for Apple or know somebody who would like to give me a discount just because they are loving giving people.. holla at ya GIRL! Credit crucnh!!
4.My CD player broke down 15 imutes before the dance off! I eneded up buying a new one for £24! Not kosher!

What makes me laugh is the example of where you would place your child!! and so I got to thinking of the practicality of the product. A good 90% of the time, when a mother is out and about their baby is in a pram/push chair, so if u were to use the bathroom or changing room you just stroll the pram inside with you..you wouldn't take the child out and do all that extra fuss, especially if u really gotta pee!

Would people forget their children in changing rooms and toilet cubicles? if a mother was to tired she could put the child in the contraction put her feet up and watch TV.. could you imagine if that was the new creche LOL Next thing you know parents would be going to parties and putting their babies in a babykeeper ,hanging them up safe in the cloakroom... ahh thats just my imagination free again..I might just buy one of these..who is expecting a bubba anytime soon?!! I got the perfect baby shower gift!! lol

In Early September I took a trip back to my second home!! Californiaaaaa.... San Francisco to be exact!!... spent two weeks out there with the intention of doing absolutely nothing!!..do you know how good it feels to do nothing when your previous months were spent doing everything,from working to partying to multi-tasking to yadda yadda yadda..you get the point. I had so much fun, I slept, wondered around the city,Chilled on the beach, Embraced that San Francisco BRISK wind..shopped..shopped and umm shopped, met with some good friends and while i'm at it, shout out to My Meggie Weggie Bunz and Annifer for looking after me! My Jazzy mae!! hooked me up at a reggaeton clubb ummhmm., My lil Prince Javier..never in my life has a young man taught me about MAC products & fragrances like has lol love ya! and JJ for taking me out even though you were driving through the mist and couldn't find a decent restaurant lol

Now meet my new baby...his name is Nemo...it is a Fish eye camera. I had to buy to replace my lovely digital camera.. *tear*it suddenly broke down while I was strolling through Berkley and started showing pics in purple and fuzzy!

However my new baby produces beautiful photo's like this....

I was on the bus on Oxford street going towards Tottenham Court Road and had to do a double take Missy Elliott style at what I saw!!

CINNABON!!

After my excitement I had go and get one of those gems! then I saw the price..maybe it tasted better when eaten in California because it was cheaper lol the big Cinnabon was £3.50 My automatic thought was....hmmm... ahem credit crunch! and the mini Cinnabon was going for £2.79 so I opted for that one since I really didnt want a big one plus it was cheaper *grin*.

I had to have a moment with the mini Cinnabon, bring it home and take my time with it.......

Its been a long time..

I shouldn't have left you.... without a good blog to read through!

Hey Hey Hey!! It has been a minute !! I have been M.I.A for the past 3 months on this blog ting here!! so much to catch up on! so much to talk about!! but before I start back dating I gotta talk about the concert I went to last night!!.. THE ROOTS!! yess yess yess!!! I am so juiced, geeked and im crushing so damn hard on a certain band member;)

The concert was off the girdle! on another level!!..Live music for me fills that void in my soul and brings me back to life! It was such a fulfilling experience that majority of the night was a big blur in fast motion!

First of all Mr ?uestlove..LOVE HIM! after seeing him perform online, on tv, blogs on his myspace and okayplayer.com I finally got to see him live..and to see somebody in their own zone beating away on those drums!! my goshhh I loved it! it was beautiful and not only is he incredible on those drums and rocks the iconic afro so well he has got a BOOTY ON HIM!! yes...whoop there it is! that man is blessed in more ways than one!!....Mr Tuba Gooding Jnr aka Mr Damon Bryson the Sousaphonist!!! it was love at first note and dance step!! so so serious! I have never seen a man carry the tuba,play it and dance with it,run across the stage with it!! he had some serious energy!! plus he was deliciously handsome..ahem...im crushin hard..lol

As for Black Thought...what can I say im always in love with his vernacular,I appreciate and love his thoughts! he was in his zone full of calm energy..he could stand there and do nothing and you could feel it!. The whole set was great and im still buzzin!

Bass player Owen "Oski" Love Biddle....when he did his solo he totally rocked my socks!! he gets the official La'Donna Stamp of approval of DOPENESS!

Guitarist/Saxophonist/ vocalist(captain Kirk Douglas...nudge me if im wrong)- DOPE!..AND THOSE SIDEBURNS o0o0o so PHRESH!

Kamal on keyboards---- ON POINT!

F.Knuckles also on the drums---- Makes me wanna play my Bongo's in the morning!

Seriously they are all that and sunday soul food dinner and krispy kremes COMBINED!

This was the first time I have been at a concert this big and the artist actually stay on stage signing shit!!

Say what!!!

yes indeed ,?uest,Tuba and F. Knuckles stayed on stage to sign whatever you gave em!!!

Although I couldn't get ?uestlove's autograph or his signed drumsticks (I did attempt a few times to try and jump for the signed drum stick..please see below ...)

But I did get my ticket signed by Mr Tuba Gooding Jnr himself!! ummmhmmm!!

Now I gotta give a big shout out to Mr Sterling because if it wasn't for him taking my ticket stretching his arm out the furthest for Tuba to see the ticket and sign it, I would not have been so extra geeked and crushing hard lol you can also check out Sterling's blog Here

I must say Sterling took it old skool! home boi had the ole polaroid camera!!

SERIOUS TINGS!!

He also had a fly scrap book had me in awe of all the pics he took, because he was so close to the stage and got some nice shots!! mine on the other hand are so so.. camera is kinda broken..i'll update ya all about that episode .

Anywho after the concert ?uest did a dj set and he is good had me going back and fourth down memory lane playing orginal songs and mixing it with the "remixed "version. That went on for about two hours then Ali Shaheed Muhammad from Tribe Called Quest came and did his thing but by that point it was almost 2am and a sistah was hungry lol I can't keep going on a empty stomach so myself my girly Ray Ray, Mr Ster Ster and Miss Rhas Journal headed off to eat...@ Sam's chicken..by the way they are not bad I rarely trust chicken shops in general. if chicken is too cheap I question if it actual chicken, but in the heat of a hungry stomach..I ate it regardless lol

So if you have never in your life been to The Roots concert.I strongly advise and recommend you purchase your tickets early and get to the concert!!

The other day, a guy questioned why i was so happy and smiling, was it because I was in love or had a good wage package. . In response I laughed yes i am in love, but mostly im in love with life! im breathing i'm living I am blessed.. that alone is something to smile about. Life could be alot worse but I am grateful for the little things in life that me me smile, make my heart overwhelm in joy like my little sister calling me just to tell me about her day and saying i love you or watching peoples reaction when i smile at them and some don't know if they should smile back or look @ me plain ole crazy!

To tell you the truth im a bit knackered, to go into detail about this wonderful event.So let me be as brief as I can...ahem..

So I was invited to a puma party to celebrate the guy who design some of the puma trainers birthday(sorry I forgot his name),it was also an exhibition to celebrate his work thus far.
It was wonderfully presented and organised by the wonderful Mr Merrick Johnson aka Mr Dopeness!!( thats my offical title for him in my previous blog titled Lady Glock Photography/Candy Coated Jewels). Inside and outside was packed and free beer was near enough in everybodys hands

WARNING... do not let me go to Borders or any book shop when short on cash!!

I visited two book shops in one day and consumed four books and a vogue magazine! reading feeds my curiosity but one in particular caught my eye....

As ,Iwas leaving borders content with my Alice Walker book I came across this..

it autiomatically pulled me towards the table and had me flicking thru the pages with big wide eyes!

I could not put the book down nor leave it where it was and had to go straight to the cashier to purchase it!

I love the fact that it is a humorous type of photography, although Terry Richardson has an obsession with his phallus and everything within a sexual nature, but I loved his comparisons between two photographs such as this

and also a comparison between a blow up doll... and its human twin,I have an inkling that she also has the same occupation lol

and this one I LOVE! I have a thing for black & white/sepia photography...

The tunnel!

ahhh the Tunnel.One decides to be an adventurer a tourist in my own city! and see about this magical tunnel @ Towerbrige just out side the queens hall., which connects to people on the other side of the world @ Brooklyn Bridge. After a hard day of work, good ole 9-5 i took it upon my self to make my journey. When I arrived a few people were hanging around.

Here i was being little naive me ,thinking it was free.... nope! you had to pay 100 pennies! yes indeed £1 to see this tunnel with a web cam and no sound, so I queued up waiting to put place my golden coin to receive a ticket, now doesn't this ticket dispenser remind you of the movie Big with Tom hanks?

I waited for a couple of seconds and tadaaa! I received my ticket!

while I was waiting in the queue for my turn to wave at strangers I thought I would take pic of good ole Tower Bridge ( also known as London bridge to Fergie and other passive viewers of her video...tut tut)

After about ten minutes it was my turn and a bunch of other tourist to wave at Americans!!

You really can't see it too well but this how it looked in the tunnel

For a good minute I was there staring into the screen watching people stare back at me. But then we started playing paper, scissors, rock with one dude and another challenged me to a pop n lock contest! now if u didn't already know I'm a danceaholic so I challenged him back! then I looked around me & felt a little bit out of place ...one black girl getting her groove on with a bunch of tourist with cameras in hand ready to snap away and city people (you know the ones with the stiff upper lip) at this point I took it upon myself to simmer down for a hot minute, smiled and waved LOL!

As myself and the other visitors started to enjoy our London/New York connection, an old lady came by and started waving and the the cam froze! shock shock horror horror! was this fraud?! was this even real?? was this all recorded and made us think it was actually live!! I was going to demand my 100 pennies back but decided such force was not necessary, however I had fun and at least I can say I met a stranger @ Brooklyn Bridge without having to leave Tower Bridge!

I wanna give a shout out to my dearest East Coast/ New Yorkers.. firstly my Brooklynite LINKY POOHZ!! I love youu!! and SAMMUELZ/SIGHFUR the man with the magic beats, my word prophet/lyrical genius!! So yesterday,I was chillin with my mini me's (my little sisters) & I noticed that they were playing some kinda game entertaining themselves... and then I saw it......................................DORA THE EXPLORER LAPTOP!

OK so you may think I'm a bit old for Dora the explorer but that shizzle was fun pressing "A "for Apple and stuff,it was fun,educational and taught you a little bit of Spanish! in my day we had Speak and Spell!!

no such thing as a Dora the explorer laptop! Back in the day we had normal teddies like Rupert the Bear or the ones you would bring to your teddy bear picnics at school(you know what I am talking about!) not Tickle Me Elmo!! how I wish I had one of those it was fun throwing Elmo in the air and have Elmo scream "higherrrr, higherrr!"

oh and in the middle of the laptop there's a mini Dora the explorer and when you get an answer right she moves her arms up and down!...so so cute!

So if you really love me....get me a Dora the Explorer laptop,or a Finding Nemo laptop or better yet how about a apple laptop

*drool*...I will love you for life! lol nah just playing ..I mean, its doesn't have to be a 24 karat gold cased mac book..just a good ole regular apple mac laptop/notebook will do:P

I was at work on my lunch, I brought some callaloo from home but didn't have nothing to eat with it. so I went to Take two for a dumplin(it is usually spelt dumpling but im typing it how it is said lol DUMPLIN!) now how ironic that the paper bag the dumplin was placed in was advertising fitness first membership for the "beach body" with a big greasy fried dumplin!

Recently I have been hopping on the buses and noticing that they inform you of each and every stop... now I understand that it is great for tourist and those who are visually impaired but! It doesn't help me! Have u ever tried having a conversation on a buss like that?! shit is annoying especially on the 159
Typical scenario is when you are suppose to meet some one and you tell a little teeny weeny white lie , the bus acts as your conscious and tries to EXPOSE YOU! lets give you an example, so your on the bus phone rings and here's how the conversation goes

Friend:Where are you?

Me: uhh I'm just going over Chelsea bridge i shouldn't be long

(at this point the bus act as your conscious)

Bus: Bus stopping at Clapham Common

Friend: what did the bus just say? where are you?

Me:oh nothing just said I'm going over Chelsea Bridge

Friend: Liar!

Bus: 137 BUS STOPPING AT CLAPHAM COMMON!

so you catch my drift......It just spoils it for me..I know I should always tell the truth..but this definitely bites my ass!

OK seriously... what is the purpose of a belt? to hold your trousers up right? well I dunno ,but I was on the bus the other day and this boy was wearing a pair of jeans and not to say the pants were on his waist! NO!just bellow his butt cheeks! come on now! I know u want to go for the baggy look. then buy a pair of baggy jeans! ya know one that fits at the waist and looks good! .... what is up with people buying tight jeans trying to make them look baggy creating the same mistake this boy did on the buss exposing boxers and trying to cover it with a long t-shirt or something! WE MUST COME TOGETHER AS ONE AND FIGHT AGAINST THIS FASHION DISEASE! IMAGINE IF HE HAD TO RUN FOR SAFETY! HE COULD OF TRIPPED UP ON HIS OWN PAIR JEANS! THE SHAMEEEEEEE!! at least he had a belt but to those who rock this same look minus the belt..I'm going to start walking around with some rope as a beltt just for them! pick up your jeans! you are not in jail foolio! Primark have cheap belts! do sumthin!! .....

Was an alright nite, one of the DJ's effed me up a few times like mixing biggie gimme the loot and then switching to Donell Jones " you know whats up" .... not Kosher.... lil mini arguments with a guy rockin a silver back pack tryna start a beef casserole with my boi Mani..... not kosher... I wondered if there was anything inside it ..Drunk Girl spilling drinks on my blasted white coat aka duvet...I really didn't appreciate it.... I say..everybody drink agua mineral( water) or juice or some kinda soft drink and get high off the music! that's all you need! Hold tight the photographer who were tryna blind me with their flashing lights....I challenged them with my own little flash and Lady Glock took out her big gun and flashed em back with the power flashes! chea!

Miss Choco bear's b-day....so I slaved over mixer and oven for 3 days trying get this chocolate cake on point! serious tings! tried my hardest and this is how it came out

Not bad huh..except the cake was a lil tough, and I was told milk was needed with it to wash it down !LMAO.. Shout out to Ishola for that one, and the rest of peeps who continued to eat the cake despite having the possibility of the cake shifting ppl molars!..I'm just saying!

Twas Sunday March 2ND 2008 and Lady Glock(Photography) and Candy Coated Jewels(T-shirts) came together to make beautiful creativity!! yesss we was sportin our Candy Coated tee's and workin it for the camera! we all came down to Dafna's palace and Abigal and Shernay from Chocolate Bear Productions were involved. Shernay the model and wonderful Abigail working her magic with the make up.. creating face graffiti,graffiti face baby!

So there we were at Dafna's palace using her apartment and surrounding areas as a back drop for her photography and then we went down to sunny ( and bloody windy) south bank, to make the real magic happen.

Upper Playground... 29/2/08

o0o0o Feb 29th! we are blessed with an extra day.. and what shall we do with this extra day? hmmmm...I decided to go look@ some art down in good ole Carnaby Street.

Myself and Lady Glock got there a lil too early so we decide to window shop, have random discussions about good ole life and decide to chill out@ ping pong mmmmmm! sticky rice! I'm a tad bit addicted to those little parcels of DELICIOUSNESS! after that we still had and hour and a bit to burn so we met up with Miss chocolate Bear aka Shernay and roamed around, going to Size and look@ all the things I could not buy..sounds like torture..but I pulled through, went to puma and saw the most delicious bag...MTV YO RAPS BAG...I have seen the trainers before they are..aiight..but the bag screamed @ me and had my heart! it was love@ first sight! but £95 though....I'll just love it from a distance,nah mean LOL....went in to Muji,ya know as much as i want to design my home by Ikea i also want all the stuff they have in Muji in my house! serious tings!

we went to Starbucks and chilled for a bit and my likkle mango introduced me to the dulce cinnamon latte..whattttt I feel in love again!..yea I fall in love easily LOL so finally the time comes and we arrive @ the venue and it was just one small room displaying the superfishal designs and other stuff. Once again I came out to venture to the wonderful Favela Chic with my extended family, my partnas in legal crime Miss chocolate bear aka Shernay,my likkle mango aka Lady Glock and Mr Ishola!! it was packed when I arrived, well I was running on bpt( black peoples timing) but didnt miss out on the performances.

On stage Oddise(Hailing from D.C) Treklife & Ty was there blessing the stage as well as a singer who goes by the name of Oliver Day Soul who had the most hugable arms! what they was spittin was good, their lyrical content was on point,had me nodding my head but I was not feeling too well and decided to have a lil snooze and rest while sitting down lol

Anywho when that was all done they started playin music but I wasn't feelin it too much, it wasn't bumpin.....YET!... as we were about to leave they started playin some tunesss! I was going in and out that venue like I dont know what! and then we dediced to stay, there was one group of men dancing away@ the same time doin the wop, the cabbage patch the running man... in my mind I thought they were asking for a challenge lol.

So when the bashment went to sleep and the break beats came in ,myself and my likkle mango aka Dafna , Cousin Shernay and mr Ishola of course took to the dance floor feeding off each other vibez and my gurl Dafna was KILLING IT!! We did a lil sumthin sumthin then all of a sudden a circle began and Dafna and I was in the middle of it.... it got to the point where I was tired, Dafna and I were like ummm ya know ,you guys can jump in too we are not here for your entertainment! lol but one home boi was dyinggg to dance you could just see it in his eyes! that man took to the middle doin sum moves all dropped his phone to rass! But he didn’t care he kept going at it.. And for that, he gets props from me! I would of given him a moonman if I had one!!so at the end of all that I had to take out my life saver aka my lil red fan! it seriously was gettin hot!

So there I was trying to cool down and I look down and who do I see! Yarah Bravo and im like yo D is'nt that dat gurl from Oneself?, and she was like yeaaaa! it is her! Yarah is givin me a high five telling myself and Dafna we were hot, dancing real hard and all of that jazz, at that moment I thought to myself wow look@ that I need to find my camera right about now..time is of the essence! She continues to talk about her upcoming tour and how she wants a bunch of creative women,like myself and Dafna to come on stage and dance and stuff..HOLDDD UPPP! wait a minute, hold the press and the paparazzi.. you want us to dance on stage? for you??!!.... LETS MARINATE ON THAT FOR A MINUTE! wow, now that’s cute lol she asked me how long I have been dancing, im like mannnnnn a couple of hours LMAO naw im not a professional I just feel the music!

Anywho she said to myspace her and I did... but no reply so I thought just maybe she was a tad under the influence of alcohol ..ya know ppl say crazy shit when they drink lol...so we took sum pics and look her face so small and mines is so big and she gave me her lens-less specs to wear.. look..it doesn't even fit my face properly..awwww how cuteeeee!!

So@ the end of the nite we got a lil hungry and burger shop man wasn’t open so we decided to go to the bagel bar instead, making sum remixes, spoken word poetry and otha crazy shit you do when you are hungry and surrounded by wonderful people. As soon as we got our bagel it was silence and you know u are hungry when all you can hear is crickets lol and the sound of us munching ....this is what we do after a bagel in the early hours of thursday morning..chill on brick lane lol....o0o0o and as myself and Dafna decided to get the bus we found a red light...you know me.. I had to take a pic of course!

So week before last I entered a itunes competition, thinking nothing of it,checked my e-mail a few days later and was greeted with a CONGRATULATIONS OF WINNING TWO TICKETS! yea I was ecstatic! so that proved me wrong with the whole you-never-win-these-kinda-competition conspiracy!

Anywho My cousin and I arrive@ Airstudios extra early because we didnt know where the studio was but we found it and decided to chillout@ Costa Coffee for a min ..I was so tempted to steal the lil costa cups they looked like the one you use to have when you were kids playing tea parties, but decided not to, coz for real not even my lil 3 year old sister would be satisfied with that itty bitty cup!

We arrive@ Airstudios at the correct time queing up, I felt so special when the guy@ the door asked for the tickets, Iwas like im on the LIST:d lol he found my name and let my cousin and I through we also got this lil iTunes card where you get to download 10 FREE SONGS....let me repeat that... FREEE! yea I was geeked up after that, freeness is my weakness after all lol

So we stand around for an hour waiting for the venue to fill out a bit and for the artist to come and bless the stage, It was small-ish and intimate...we met a few peeps we usually see@ yoyo's or plastic people had a good ole chitchat..first up on stage was Miss TAWIAH!Now if you haven't heard of this woman or heard her sing I suggest you go to her myspace ASAP! www.myspace.com/tawiah ,I loved her performance and all of her songs! she totally rocks my socks!her voice sooo soulful, so biritish, so o0o0o0o0o, and her lyrical content is jus o0o0o00o0o0o0o0o so on point! LOVE HER! and her guitarist Jodi such a cutie pie lol Vula was also on stage singing background vocalz..and her voice is juss woooooooo! off the girdle too!

TAWIAH HAS HER EP OUT TITLED IN JODI'S BEDROOM ITS ON ITUNES GET DAT GOOD STUFF ON YOUR IPODS! ASAP! IT IS ALL THAT AND A BOX OF KRISPY KREMES! Sing it Tawiah sing itttt!!

Next up was Mr Daniel Merriweather......this man..he had.my.heart! There he was sittin on a stool drinkin some special potion for his sore throat, and he was juss singing away!

Ozzie brotha man has got SOUL! and he was adorable, he has this lil curly fringe and I juss wanted to put one curl behind his ear and rub his cheeks! yes i was smittien! i was seduced by his voice and persona! ohhh and he can even whitsle a song the same way he SINGS! my Goodness this man is talented! I will await to purchase his album sometime in the summer, he sang a few songs he has been working on, now if my memory serves me correct he sang a song titled Red,Kill My Self, For Your Money and of course he sang Stop Me...acoustic styleee, Daniel and Tawiah also did a duet together on stage... beautiful..here are sum snap shots.

Last but not least Estelle came on stage with a hype vibe,she is a JOKER!. I can tell you I am looking forward to hearing her album..out on MARCH 31ST! the album is titled SHINE.. so make sure u get it! she had her two background singers. one male and one female.but the dude who was singing backround vocalz...he was so cute almost delicous just dancing away, bless him but the the dude who playing the keyboard mann he had a shiny caramel bald head wid a lil goatee.. he could pass as Common's 4th cousin on the left hand side! ahem excuse me I was goin a bit off topic.......ESTELLE...yea so she sang 1980, Wait a Min, Shine and American boy she also did a lil duet with Daniel on stage..again wonderful performance. o0o0o0o Estelle also got this asian dude to get on stage and dance with her the dude looked a lil shy but it was cute and a lil funny@ the same time lol, Estelle performance was the most livilest and she talked about how she came up with the songs and stuff.

I am proud of her,it took her a minute to be regognised and now I see her in pride magazine, hip hop connection and vibee WHATTTT! more power to you sistah gurl!

So at the end of the night I was pumped happy with my dose of feel good music! I had American boy stuck in my head and as I Looked around ready to head out I see yummy Reggie Yates to my Left and that dude wid the long Goatee who sang dat funky house tune...hey girll look ova ya shoulderrrr... yea you know tha one im talkin about!

I had to get Tawiah's song oh and she had a FREE single that week! I was uber geeked! yea that whole free songs thing was trick they knew you was gonna buy the songs you just heard on stage! clever little swines! LOL

My Trapstar experience...wid a lil gold and a pager....15/2/08

Ahhhhhh,Trapstar...never really heard of it till the day I actually went to the event, location up in shoreditch/old street. When I first heard about it I thought it was called trakstar, so my cousin corrected me and I asked what is it? what is it about? and is it free?? she told me it was a fashion label and what not and of course it is free! well shitttt im there!! lol so we turn up get searched by the door and i did my workout before gettin on the dance floor! those stairs were burnin a sistahs thighs but it was all good and as we were goin up i noticed all the graffiti and tag work on the walls i shudda taken a pic but I was either too busy walking up or down the stairs and tryna catch my breath LOL

Anywho we got to the top floor and entered a nearly packed room with YoYo regulars and other people within the fashion and music industry,I saw Mr Charlie hustle himself always looking suave lol check out his tee's>> myspace.com/charliehustleclothing , Kesh was there,swaggaerific Mc Verbz ,Mr rope chain himself Master Shortie etc etc ,

The DJ was playing a few good tunes and was over doing it with the rewinds then all of a sudden the sound system was acting up and it took them over an hour to get it fixed.... but moving right along...

So the Cool kids hailing from the Chi-town were performing and so was the Carps hailing from Canada. So my crew and I found a spot right up front so we could get a good view and bwoyyy the Carps were rockin it! Home boi cud sure play the drums and the other dude could sure rock with that guitar!..

Yea I didn't get a good pic of the guitarist,but he had a hard core leather jacket tho..you see it? lol

As we were trying to watch the performance this likkle snotty face, dutty face bwoy and his homie was trying to squeeze up front when there was no bloody space..I swear they was trying so hard and then they had the nerve to have ATTITUDE..Iwas ready to give them two bitch lick( a bitch slap)

So after the Carps was done performing the sound system was still acting up and they were trying to fix it. The Cool Kids came up and performed, I even got a handshake from the the delicious slender dude Mikey *does the blush face* they was spittin their rhymes on a trolley blud! that was their stage lol..but guess who came back tryna get up front..yes those two likkle snotty faced dutty, face bwoy dem and dude was really tryna push me with consistency! so a sistah had to fight back and defend her territory,I refused to be purposely bumped into and and pushed about so I stomped on his pinky toe:D yeaaa how about that for a heavy weight BITCH! and he stopped after that:D..fuck with my GANGSTA SON! SLOW YA ROLE!...lol ahemm *clears throat*

Other than that little disturbance, The Cool Kids were doing their thugthizzle had us nodding our head repeating lyrics i.e..wid a lil gold and a pagerrrrrr..... O0O0O AND THE INFECTIOUS BLACK MAG SONG...Pedal down the foot hills,Wheelies on the front...P-p-pedal down the foot hills,Wheelies on the front..I'm on the dyno with the black mags..cheaaa... and all thatgood stuff!.... I must say we were right up front so I got that close up without the zoom baby! check out the snapshots!

oh and the Cameras and flashing lights in that joint was FIERCE! after the performance we decided to call it a night and head for home oo00o and on the way down the stairs i really thought it was a figment of my imagination but naw...I saw Amy Winehouse rollin up a cigarette ,talking to a friend she looked well and less crack-ish..at least her hair was black because the blonde look was a shocker and was not complimenting her at all! lol hopefully she is getting her life on track, coz she sure has talent!

The J-Dilla Birthday Party at Favela Chic was off the Girdle!
It was my first time attending this venue & I had to admire the decor! I actually feel in love wit it! here are some of my snapshots

When I arrived @Favela Chic,It was quiet at first.I was observing the crowd,noting the differences between the J-Dilla fans and the people who just bumped into the venue,suited & booted in work attire expecting a chill night after a hard days work BLAHHHHH! They was in for a surprise when the DJ started killing us with the Dilla beats,Paz from the lookout crew hyping the crowd with mic in tow by the end of the night they bizzounced!

o0oo I also met my match with a dude(he goes by the name of Ahmed reppin Brooklyn! and is gifted when it comes to piano keys! check out his myspizzle!...myspace.com/ahmedsoriginalmusic) doing the wickedest freestyle movements and wanted to challenge me! it was on & pop! pop! poppin! we had to battle! doin the robot, the wop, cabbage patch,a lil playful pop and lock lol it was all fun and jokes but i must say ahemmm....*clears throat* I won the battle!:D lol :P

o0o They even fed us Krispy Kreme Doughnuts!whattttt!
Sorry I do not have any evidence of the doughnuts, as I was too busy eating mine and enjoying the moment! Those Krispy Kremes tasted good on my lips and added pounds to my hips but i ain't complaining the shit tasted gooooodddd!!:D

Ok so where was I..oh yes so after myself and my challenger Ahmed got a lil tired the real break dancing began,B-boys came outta nowhere! ya know with pure fireceness and seriousness.By this point I was spent chewing on a starburst for energy and drinkin a large cup of water!

Overall I enjoyed my self danced like there was no tomorrow,fell in love wid the beats again and was feelin the vibe!..like i said before the nite was off the GIRDLE! so yea umm same time, same place, next year babyyy!!

R.I.P DILLA!

J-Dilla Changed my Life@ Cargo 10/2/08

Well if you didn't know Dilla passed away in 2006 from a rare blood disease named TTP( Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) and Lupus,so Doctors Order in Association with Stussy UK organised a tribute night for Dilla and all proceeds made form the nite was put towards the Lupus UK and J-Dilla Foundation.It was kinda a free event, puttin my donation in the lil bucket and getting my free lupus sticker! I was ready to live it up for a good cause!
So I arrived @ Cargo just in time no long queues! waiting for the nite to heat up,chillin by the bar ,people started coming in bucket loads then it got packed like a muthafukka!

Shortee Blitz was the host of the night gettin the crowd to interact,DJ's was spinning,we were all vibing and feeding off the Dilla doughnuts!Met some random,fun and weird people lol here's some pics of the night....feel tha vibe!!
